Husband and I went to see the doctor for a routine check up of the bump this afternoon. It was a happy and exciting check, with everything being so imminent and baby sounding very happy thru the heart beat monitor. One of our hiking group, a lovely American lady who also comes to playgroup with her 2.5 year old and 10 month old daughters, has just lost her husband to a sudden, fatal illness. There had been about 7 inches of snow over night, and because President Nazarbayev was evidently planning a visit (we worked this out from the solid presence of policemen and people scraping ice off the road all the way up there), the slopes had been pisted even before 10am when the lift opens.
